MELBOURNE tall forward Jack Watts is in doubt for Saturday night's clash against West Coast after failing to get through training on Thursday morning.

Watts, who was under a fitness cloud with a hamstring complaint, left the track early after consulting with medical staff.

On Thursday morning coach Simon Goodwin said the club would take no risks with sore players on a six-day break.

He said Watts, who injured his hamstring in last week's 57-point win over the Western Bulldogs, would need to complete the session to make the trip to Perth on Thursday evening.

"It's pretty much as simple as that," Goodwin said.

"We're in this period now of six-day breaks where if anyone is sore we won't take a risk on them.

"He'll have to train fully today, but we expect Jack to be able to do that and get on the flight today."

Watts is in career-best form and has booted six goals from his past two games, standing up in the absence of teammate Jesse Hogan.

The Demons will already be without co-captain Nathan Jones (calf) but welcome back star ruckman Max Gawn from a hamstring injury as they shoot for their fourth straight win.
