EVERGREEN Port Adelaide utility Justin Westhoff is close to finalising a deal to play on at the Power next year.

The 219-game veteran confirmed to AFL.com.au he had a clause in his contract linked to the number of games he played this year.

The 30-year-old has played all 16 games for Port this season, averaging 20.5 possessions and 5.9 marks per game.

"That's the plan going forward, to be around next year," Westhoff told AFL.com.au on Tuesday.

"We're just working through a few things to get that over the line.

"I think that's pretty much locked away.

"Yeah there was (a games clause), we're just working through that at the moment to suit everyone."

Westhoff has been remarkably durable during his 11 seasons with the Power since arriving at the club as the 71st overall pick in the 2006 draft.

Port Adelaide has locked away a bunch of their young talent this year, with Sam Powell-Pepper, Tom Clurey, Dan Houston, Billy Frampton and Riley Bonner among those to have signed contract extensions.

Experienced duo Brad Ebert and Jack Hombsch have also put pen to paper on new deals.

"I'm a guy that really wants to stick around and be a one-club player," Westhoff said.

"It's good to see the young guys are willing to sign straight off the bat and extend their contracts.

"That just shows where we're at as a club and the culture we've built over the past few years that those guys want to stick around."

The fourth-placed Power face another tough test when they take on Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday.

Ruckman Patrick Ryder was restricted to walking laps at training at Alberton Oval on Tuesday morning.

Ryder sustained an ankle injury in last weekend's 70-point thumping of North Melbourne, and finished the game on the bench.

Defender Matthew Broadbent did some straight-line running in his recovery from an ankle injury.

"It's looking pretty promising for (Broadbent) to come up, but spots are pretty tough," Westhoff said.

"He's a big part of what we are about, so hopefully he can come up for the game.

"Paddy had a day off today, but he should be fine and ready to go by Saturday."

It's the Power's second trip to the 'G' this season after their 31-point victory over Collingwood in round 14.

"It's a massive game for us in the context of the season, we're kind of fighting for the same spot on the ladder," Westhoff said.
