COLLINGWOOD defender Tyson Goldsack will play on in 2018 after re-signing with the Magpies for another season.

The free agent enjoyed a strong season in defence for the Magpies, playing 20 games as he returned to his consistent best.

Goldsack, 30, has played 161 games for the Magpies since making his debut in 2007 and was part of the 2010 premiership team after being recalled for the Grand Final replay.

Collingwood list manager Derek Hine told collingwoodfc.com.au that Goldsack's selflessness was an asset for the Magpies.

"Tyson is now a senior figure in the change room and we look forward to him continuing in 2018 and beyond," Hine said.

The Magpies announced on Monday they had re-signed tall forward Mason Cox. They are also expected to offer midfielder Josh Thomas a one-year deal.

Collingwood also appointed former Western Bulldog Matthew Boyd as a development coach following his retirement.

The Magpies are hoping to bounce back from a disappointing season after re-appointing Nathan Buckley as coach for two more years following a review into the football department.
