Eagles fans' verdict: Great escapes not enough

The Eagles whose 'time is up' We dissect the highs and lows of West Coast's 2017 in The Wash-Up

DESPITE the Eagles extending their season with two incredible escapes, West Coast fans aren't content with their side's performance in 2017.

The Eagles went perilously close to missing the finals, only sneaking in by 0.5 percentage points courtesy of a heart-stopping win over Adelaide in the final match of the home-and-away season.

Then in an unforgettable elimination final, the Eagles forced Port Adelaide to extra time, then recovered a 13-point deficit before stealing the win thanks to Luke Shuey's nerveless shot after the siren.

But West Coast fans weren't swayed by the late fireworks, rating the campaign just 5.5 out of 10 when giving their end-of-season verdict in an survey.

On the upside for the Eagles hierarchy, coach Adam Simpson received a bump, with 72 per cent saying they were happy with him at the helm, up from 54 per cent in mid-season.

Here are the full survey results, and as a selection of West Coast fans' moments to remember and forget.

What was the moment you'll remember?

Definitely the 'Shuperman's goal after the siren against Port Adelaide in extra time. I went ballistic!
- James Stockley, Hillarys WA

Eric Mackenzie smashing into the point post, getting the ball out of bounds.
- Kevin O'Neill, Inglewood WA

Lewis Jetta's effort against Adelaide to get us into the finals.
- Nick Crompton, England

The win against the Dogs at Etihad. Showed real fight and grit to hang on, something which we had been lacking.
- Jerome Ghattas, Currambine WA

What was the moment you'd rather forget?

Losing games after having control in the final quarter.
- Greg Hazell, Joondanna WA

Collingwood at the MCG. Embarrassing to lose from that position.
- Blake Reynolds, London UK

Josh Kennedy's injury. Turning point of the season.
- Nicole Gillespie, Joondalup WA

Knowing our season's over halfway through the second quarter in the semi-final against GWS.
- Denholm Burford, Bibra Lake WA
