GREATER Western Sydney fans are ruing a limp finish to season 2017 that left the Giants still waiting on their first Grand Final appearance.

Giving their season verdict on the Giants in an AFL.com.au fan survey, fans gave the season only 7.2 out of 10 despite a second consecutive preliminary final appearance.

A thumping by Geelong in round 23 cost the Giants a home qualifying final. They then suffered heavy losses in away finals to Adelaide and Richmond, punctuated only by an emphatic semi-final win over West Coast at Spotless Stadium.

Star midfielder Josh Kelly's re-signing was the side's biggest off-field coup, and Giants fans voted him their player of the season with 62 per cent of the vote, miles ahead of captain Callan Ward.

Big-name recruit Brett Deledio struggled with injury for most of the season, playing just seven games and was well below his best.

The fans named him the most disappointing player, just ahead of Ryan Griffen, who spent most of the year with Deledio in the injury rehab group.
