NORTH Melbourne has promoted long-time strength and conditioning coach and dietician Jona Segal as its new high performance manager.

Segal has vast experience in the sports science industry and has worked at the Kangaroos since 2000.

"Jona is widely regarded as one of the best in the business," North's general manager of football Cameron Joyce said.

"He is an extremely knowledgeable, loyal and hardworking professional that adds tremendous value and ability to our club. This promotion is a credit to his unparalleled work ethic and dedication."

Injury ravaged the Roos' list this year, with Jack Ziebell, Mason Wood, Sam Wright, Ben Jacobs, Marley Williams, Kayne Turner, Majak Daw, Ed Vickers Willis, Jy Simpkin, Paul Ahern and Jarrad Waite missing extended periods of time.

Segal, who replaces Steve Saunders in the role, will work closely with North's medical department.

Meanwhile, the Roos have appointed former Carlton assistant Scott Gowans as senior coach of the club's inaugural AFLW team.

North is likely to field a team in the VFL Women's competition for the 2019 season, along with its first AFLW senior side, having secured a licence recently from the AFL.

Since 2012, Gowans accumulated extensive experience as a senior coach in women's football, including Diamond Creek and Vic Country Youth Girls before joining the Blues.
