ADELAIDE club champion Matt Crouch has been given the honour of taking over retired great Scott Thompson's No.5 guernsey.

Thompson donned the Crows' No.5 jumper for 269 of his 308 career games in 13 seasons from 2005 to 2017.

But it will now belong to Crouch, who played 72 games wearing the No.44 jumper and won the club's best and fairest this year, along with being named an All Australian for the first time.

"'Thommo' asked me if I would like to wear No.5 once he retired," Crouch told afc.com.au.

"Thommo’s helped me a lot in my career and is obviously a champion of this club, so I thought it was a great opportunity."

In two other changes, Hugh Greenwood will wear No.1 next season, moving up from the No.20 jumper he wore in 15 games this year.

Second-year midfielder Myles Poholke – yet to debut in the AFL - will take over the No.10 jumper previously allocated to Harrison Wigg, who joined Gold Coast during the NAB AFL Trade Period.

The No.1 jumper became available when Jono Beech was delisted, allowing Greenwood the opportunity to honour his late mum Andree, who lost her battle with cancer last month.

"Mum’s life quote was, ‘Make every second count’," Greenwood said.

"Now, every time I go to my locker or put on the jumper I’ll see the No.1 and it will remind me to make the most of every day, and every second.

"Hopefully, I can continue to raise awareness for secondary breast cancer, too."

Crows recruits Bryce Gibbs and Sam Gibson have yet to be allocated numbers at their new club.

The remaining numbers up for grabs are six, 20, 23, 28, 31, 32, 36 and 44.

However, midfielder Cam Ellis-Yolmen will continue to wear No.28 if he is available to the Crows in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft.
