FOR FREMANTLE superstar Nat Fyfe, the Virgin Australia International Rules Series does not only provide an opportunity to represent his country and remind everyone how dominant he can be.

Along with his coach Ross Lyon, who is one of Chris Scott's assistants for the two Tests against Ireland, Fyfe is also doing research on his peers as he attempts to reassert himself as the best player in the AFL.

Dustin Martin and Patrick Dangerfield have taken out the past two Brownlow Medals but injury kept Fyfe to five games in 2016, and despite impressive form late this year, he never quite reached his brilliant form of 2015.

After a best-on-ground performance against the Irish last Sunday, many expect Fyfe to tear the competition apart next season, and he is doing all he can to make that happen.

"It has been a great 10 days. Just a collection of like-minded people. Even the support staff – the physios; Rob Spurrs is from Sydney who is the strength and conditioning coach," Fyfe told reporters on Thursday.

"Everyone is at the top end of their game so to be able to mix with those sort of guys has been really good.

"Both Ross and I have got ears and eyes open just figuring out where the rest of the competition is at. For me from a leadership perspective, to be able to pick the brain of Scott Pendlebury and Joel Selwood and ask them about their trials and tribulations as captains, particularly young captains, is invaluable."

Running around with some of the AFL's biggest names has been a highlight, and Fyfe won't be forgetting his brilliant goal anytime soon.

"Coming into this series I thought I'd be pretty pumped to play," Fyfe said.

"But once I pulled the emblem on and I was running out alongside guys like Luke Shuey, Chad Wingard, Scott Pendlebury, Eddie Betts, the names go on. Representing the country and having the fans behind us was pretty special.

"When I kicked that goal and the whole team came in, (it showed) this game means a lot to the players and it's something that I'll remember for a long time."
