THE 2017 AFL season – at least the home-and-away rounds – will go down as one of history's most competitive and thrilling.
To celebrate a season for the ages, we're asking you to help rank 2017's best games.
From instant classics like the Port-West Coast elimination final to Adelaide's implausible comeback against Collingwood, there's a lot to choose from, so we've asked AFL.com.au match reporters to prepare a 16-match shortlist.

R2: Western Bulldogs v Sydney
A see-sawing Grand Final rematch, highlighted by an unstoppable burst from Lance Franklin that almost, but not quite, stopped the Dogs in their tracks.
R6: GWS v Western Bulldogs
Cold revenge for the Giants for 2016's preliminary final defeat. A pulsating blow-for-blow encounter in Canberra which the Bulldogs could have pinched in the dying moments.
R8: Richmond v Fremantle
The Dockers mob MCG match-winner David Mundy. All pictures: AFL Photos
Heaven and hell for Tiger fans. A last-quarter comeback that erased a 30-point deficit, only to be undone by David Mundy's shot on the siren.
R9: GWS v Richmond
The Tigers thought they'd sealed it with 80 seconds to play, but a Shai Bolton goal was overturned, the Giants took it the length of the field and Jeremy Cameron nailed the winner.
R10: Sydney Swans v Hawthorn
A brave brown and gold performance at the SCG looked to no avail when the Hawks surrendered the lead late on. But a 50m bomb from Jarryd Roughead delivered a memorable win.
R10: Geelong v Port Adelaide
Charlie Dixon cops it from the Cats during May's Thursday night thriller. 
Patrick Dangerfield's boot decided a thrilling Thursday night at the Cattery. It followed a moment of controversy when Power forward Charlie Dixon was called to play on after taking too long to shoot for goal.
R10: West Coast v GWS
Severely undermanned, the Giants stormed West Coast's fortress. There were eight lead changes in a gripping final quarter, with Toby Greene's late heroics sealing the points.
R12: Melbourne v Collingwood
Eight years after his horror Queen's Birthday debut against the Pies, Demon Jack Watts became a hero in the same fixture, kicking a brilliant goal inside the final two minutes to seal the result.
R14: Sydney Swans v Essendon
The Bombers led by 17 points at the 24-minute mark of the last term, before their ghosts returned and Gary Rohan delivered the home side an incredible win after the siren.
R14: West Coast v Melbourne
Unlikely Demons hero Tom McDonald lets rip after a long-awaited win in the west.
The night the Demons ended a 15-year hoodoo against the Eagles in Perth. It took a miraculous goal from defender Tom McDonald to clinch the thriller.
R17: Geelong v Hawthorn
Five goals on one leg from Patrick Dangerfield lit up a game that gripped us until the dramatic final seconds. Isaac Smith could have won it for the Hawks, but his shot sailed right.
R19: Collingwood v Adelaide
Mitch McGovern soars and Magpie hearts are broken. 
The Magpies led by 50 points early in the third quarter, but the Crows wouldn't go away. Mitch McGovern's huge pack mark seconds before the final siren secured a famous draw.
R22: Adelaide v Sydney
Two teams at the top of their games slugged it out in a heavyweight blockbuster at Adelaide Oval. A one-two combination from Sam Reid and Tom Papley decided the contest.
R23: West Coast v Adelaide
A home-and-away season finale that virtually stopped the nation. With the finals hopes of West Coast and Melbourne both hinging on the result, the Eagles had to not just upset the ladder leaders, but do so by a big enough margin to dislodge Melbourne from the eight. It went to the wire.
Elimination Final: Port Adelaide v West Coast
Luke Shuey wheels away after nailing his shot after the siren to end Port Adelaide's season.
Not content with round 23's heroics, the Eagles played out another heart-stopper. After scores were level at the final siren, Port surged to a 13-point lead in extra time. It looked enough, until the umpire's whistle and Luke Shuey's boot delivered a finish that still feels hard to believe.
Grand Final: Adelaide v Richmond
An unforgettable day for the Tiger army. Stars Dustin Martin, Alex Rance and Bachar Houli thrived on the biggest stage as first-quarter nerves gave way to hope, then belief, then unbridled celebration.
