The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review of  the opening match of Week Two  of the JLT Community Series has been completed. The following charges have been laid, while Michael Christian will be available to media at the conclusion to the weekend on Monday March 5.

Charges Laid:

Shane Savage, St Kilda, has been charged with engaging in rough conduct against Paddy Dow, Carlton, during the second quarter of Wednesday’s Week Two JLT Community Series match between St Kilda and Carlton, played at Ikon Park on Wednesday February 28, 2018.

In summary, he can accept a $2000 sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Carlton Football Club, the incident was assessed as careless conduct with low impact to the head. As a low-level classifiable first offence, the incident was classified as a $3000 sanction. An early plea enables the player to accept a $2000 sanction.

Other Incidents Assessed:

Contact between Carlton’s Harry McKay and St Kilda’s Jarryn Geary from the second quarter of Wednesday’s match was assessed. The match review officer Michael Christian said McKay was leading up the field. As he sought to mark the ball, it spilled to the ground as he was pressured by his opponent Nathan Brown. As the ball went to ground, McKay was immediately confronted by Jarryn Geary and Jarrod Garlett coming towards the contest. McKay makes inevitable contact with Geary. It was the view of Christian that McKay was contesting the ball and did not have a realistic alternative way to contest the ball. No further action was taken.
