WHEN judging which traded player will have the biggest impact on his new team in 2018, it's little surprise AFL footballers have leaned towards two of the most decorated footballers this century.

However, look a little deeper and you may be surprised.

You can't mention Brisbane this pre-season without including Luke Hodge in the same sentence, and the four-time premiership Hawk topped the list when AFL.com.au asked player whose switch will have the biggest impact, as part of the fifth annual Players' Top 50.

In a tight vote, Hodge garnered 18 per cent of the players' support, edging out former-Crow-turned-Demon Jake Lever and dual Brownlow medalist Gary Ablett.

But immediately beneath them is an interesting name.

While it's easy to see Hodge, Ablett and even Lever – who will stiffen the improving Demons' defence – having an instant effect, Nathan Wilson's move to Fremantle could be just as significant, according to the players.

Wilson played 24 games for Greater Western Sydney last season and caught the eye of many keen observers not only with his willingness to run and bounce, but also with his penetrating right boot that was often pinpoint perfect.

Wilson has just turned 25 and after six seasons and 77 games should be entering the prime of his career.

The players certainly think he can help Fremantle rise from its difficult 2017.

Former Lion Tom Rockliff, who has moved to Port Adelaide, and Bryce Gibbs' move from Carlton to Adelaide, both also got some support.

Which player will have the biggest impact at their new club in 2018?
