COURTNEY Gum has capped off a stunning debut season by winning the AFLW Players' MVP award, as well as placing in two other awards.

However, one of the two she narrowly failed to win was the best first-year player award.

The 36-year-old played all seven games for Greater Western Sydney this season, averaging 14.7 disposals, 4.9 tackles and 3.4 clearances a match.

One of the best contested-ball players in the competition, Gum won the award with 219 votes from Melbourne's Karen Paxman (150) and Adelaide's Chelsea Randall (128).

The two-step voting process saw each player nominate three teammates to go on a shortlist.

Players then voted from the final shortlist of 54 players (three from each club) on a 3-2-1 basis, but they weren’t allowed to vote for teammates.

Chloe Molloy's impressive season in defence for Collingwood saw her crowned best first-year player.

Molloy had made her name as a forward before she was drafted but slotted into the backline with ease.

She ranked second in the competition in intercept possessions, behind only Brisbane star Kate Lutkins.

She just pipped Gum for the award (84 votes to 79), with Brisbane forward Sophie Conway third (10).

Randall and Melbourne captain Daisy Pearce won their respective awards for the second year in a row.

Randall, known for her intercept marks going back with the flight of the ball, was once again named most courageous. Gum and Carlton midfielder Katie Loynes were second and third.

Despite Melbourne missing the Grand Final by percentage once again, Pearce was named best captain.

The Giants’ rise up the ladder saw Amanda Farrugia finish second, with Carlton captain Brianna Davey third, despite playing just two matches before tearing her ACL.
