CAM RAYNER joked that he needed to watch YouTube clips to learn the Brisbane Lions' theme song ahead of Sunday's drought-breaking win over Hawthorn.

Rayner was instrumental in the Lions' 56-point triumph at the Gabba and said he was well prepared to get the lyrics right in his first AFL victory.

"I'd been practising it for a while, hoping it was going to come," Rayner said at a recovery session on Monday afternoon.

"I'd watched a couple of video clips on YouTube.

"The boys had sent me the lyrics through during the week, so it was good fun."

Rayner, the number one NAB AFL Draft pick last season, was one of six Lions to experience their first win in club colours, along with Zac Bailey, Oscar McInerney, Matt Eagles and big-name recruits Luke Hodge and Charlie Cameron.

"I think Charlie Cameron was just humming along a bit, he didn't really know what he was saying," Rayner laughed.

"Originally I thought it was just the first-year players (who stood in the middle of the team song), but then I forgot Hodgey and Charlie also had their first win here.

"It was good fun. All the boys getting around us was unreal."

While Rayner, who kicked two goals among his 12 disposals, was quick to make light of Cameron's singing ability, he was just as effusive in his praise of the former Adelaide Crow.

"Charlie's a freak, such a good bloke to have around the club.

"When he's enjoying his footy, that's when he's playing his best. He's been unreal.

"When Charlie gets around the ball, he's so electrifying and it electrifies you as a teammate and the fans as well."
