INJURED Essendon trio Michael Hurley, Andrew McGrath and David Myers are all possible inclusions ahead of its clash against an injury-riddled GWS on Saturday night.

Hurley (hamstring), McGrath (calf) and Myers (hip) all missed the Bombers' emphatic win over an in-form Geelong boasting an engine room featuring Patrick Dangerfield, Gary Ablett and Joel Selwood.

Bombers coach John Worsfold says the injured trio will have the club's Wednesday morning training session to prove their fitness and availability.

"Hurley, McGrath and Myers are all a chance," Worsfold said on Wednesday morning.

RISING STAR Who's in the running so far this season?

"Depending on what boxes they can tick in terms of at training today, yes, they're all a chance."

However, Hurley looks unlikely to face the Giants after the All Australian defender trained away from the main group on Wednesday and was restricted to running duties.

Worsfold expressed faith in his players' recoveries, but insisted "optimism" didn't mean a lot when it came to senior selection.

"I'm optimistic that Joe (Daniher) could play this week," Worsfold joked, with the Essendon spearhead ruled out for at least three more weeks with osteitis pubis.

"It doesn't really matter if I'm optimistic or not, there's a protocol to go through."

Darcy Parish also remains in selection contention after the midfielder was best on ground in their VFL win over Geelong.

"Parish responded (to his omission) really well," Worsfold said.

"We were rapt with the way he went about it, [he] won a lot of the footy and worked really hard.

"That certainly means he's fit and available for selection."

After losing eight consecutive third terms, and despite kicking 1.6 last weekend against Geelong, Essendon won its first "premiership quarter" of 2018 on its way to a 34-point win.

Shaun McKernan was a shining light for the Bombers, kicking four goals after being selected to replace Daniher.

"We're rapt for (McKernan)," Worsfold said.

"It was a hard six weeks or so telling him each week that he wasn't in the team because his form had been outstanding.

"His pre-season was outstanding, too.

"We've got a lot of players that we'd be happy to have in the team, but they've got wait for their opportunity as well."

Exciting prospect Aaron Francis is close to an AFL return, but Worsfold says the 193cm Bomber taken at pick six in 2015 NAB AFL Draft is still at least a fortnight away.

Francis has played five games since his debut in round 18, 2016, but has had no continuity due to injury and other concerns.

In February, Francis took personal leave to deal with a mental health issue before returning to the Tullamarine base to reunite with his Essendon teammates four weeks later.

Francis has shown promising signs over the past fortnight for Essendon's VFL team as the 20-year-old's game day workload gradually increases.

"Francis is getting closer (to senior selection)," Worsfold said.

"I'd say he still needs a couple of weeks of full match play to get to his best.

"We're pretty excited in what we're seeing and how he's coming along."
