COLLINGWOOD’S AFL Women’s football operations manager Mathew James has resigned halfway through the trade and re-signing period.

It is understood James – a former AFL field umpire – will pursue a career in player management.

The Magpies are now on the lookout for their third footy operations manager in three years, after James replaced Meg Hutchins, who was juggling playing with her off-field role.

The club's performance and strategy manager Marcus Wagner has already been involved in AFLW list management discussions and will take control from here on.

Wagner has worked at the club for more than 10 years and was involved in setting up the AFLW program in late 2016.

As well as the football operations role, the Magpies still need to find replacements for Daniel Harford (former AFLW senior assistant and now Carlton's AFLW coach) and Shannon McFerran (the ex-AFLW development and now the Blues’ VFLW coach).

Collingwood's AFLW senior coach Wayne Siekman was recently appointed for another season.

The Magpies lost four players – Jasmine Garner, Moana Hope, Emma King and Jess Duffin –  to expansion club North Melbourne.

They have confirmed the re-signings of Sophie Casey, Steph Chiocci, Sarah Dargan, Stacey Livingstone, Cecilia McIntosh, Chloe Molloy, Iilish Ross and Holly Whitford, and also acquired Brisbane's Nicole Hildebrand in a three-way trade with Carlton that saw them relinquish their fourth-round selection.

The sign and trade period runs until June 4, with a free agency window from June 4 -7.
