NORTH Melbourne has elected to challenge second-year midfielder Jy Simpkin's two-match suspension for rough conduct.

It is the second time this year the Kangaroos have fought one of their players' bans.

They successfully appealed captain Jack Ziebell's one-match ban for kneeing against Richmond in round eight.

Simpkin initially had his hands out as players hunted the loose ball before making last-second contact to Brisbane opponent Allen Christensen's head in the first quarter of Sunday's clash at Etihad Stadium.

The Lion's head slammed into the turf and he failed a concussion test and took no further part in the game.

Match review officer Michael Christian graded Simpkin's action as careless, high impact and high contact.

Simpkin will miss North's matches against Geelong and the Western Bulldogs, either side of its round 13 bye, if the club's appeal is unsuccessful.

"In this particular case, while initially he had his hands out, it was clear – and I know it's a tough game and it's split-second stuff – but Christensen had possession of the ball and Jy had enough time to turn and elect to bump," Christian said.

"Forceful high contact was made with his shoulder to Christensen's head and as a consequence, we graded the conduct as careless."
