WESTERN Bulldogs players shivered through Melbourne's coldest morning of the year on Tuesday in a soul-searching beach session aimed at turning around their faltering season.

Players converged on a dark Brighton beach in the early hours as they prepared for Saturday's crunch clash with North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.

The players bonded in a session designed to galvanise the struggling team, as the temperature dipped below three degrees.

The session was called following last week's 57-point loss to Port Adelaide, after which the Dogs slumped to 4-8 to sit 14th on the ladder.

Since the breakthrough 2016 premiership, the club has won just 15 of 34 matches.

The beach immersion comes as the club endures its worst run of injuries under coach Luke Beveridge, with hamstring setbacks meaning captain Easton Wood has been sidelined for the season and star midfielder Jack Macrae for four weeks.

Seven premiership players have been ruled out for the clash with the Roos, while Marcus Bontempelli (knee), Tom Boyd (finger) and Toby McLean (shoulder) will require fitness tests.
