ESSENDON ruckman Tom Bellchambers has signed a new two-year contract extension with the club.

It is understood the Bombers will make the details of the new deal official on Thursday.

The previously out-of-contract ruckman took to Twitter to express his delight in re-signing with the Bombers.

Bellchambers played his best game for the season against West Coast last Thursday and was crucial in Essendon's victory, winning 22 hit-outs and kicking an important goal.

The 28-year-old has played all bar one game this season, averaging 32.1 hit-outs and 11 disposals per game.

With Matthew Leuenberger's injury issues and Sam Draper still developing, keeping Bellchambers healthy for the rest of the season will be a major priority for Essendon.

Bellchambers has played 105 matches for Essendon, missing the entire 2016 season as part of the WADA-imposed suspension on those players involved in the supplements saga at the club in 2012.
