ST KILDA defender Jake Carlisle will return for the side's clash with Carlton on Friday night, having missed just one week with a punctured lung.

Carlisle had been battling rib soreness ahead of the side's loss to Port Adelaide last week, when an injection to numb the pain caused him to suffer the lung issue.

However, he will miss just one week and won't add to the Saints' growing injury problems.

Fellow Saints defender Logan Austin will miss the next fortnight due to a groin injury, while young forward Paddy McCartin will be sidelined for two weeks with a foot sprain.

Josh Battle will also sit out this weekend's match as he recovers from a fractured eye socket.

Carlton is still sweating on the fitness of defensive duo Kade Simpson and Jacob Weitering, who are both battling calf injuries.

The Blues will likely take a cautious approach with fellow defender Caleb Marchbank, who reported a raised heartbeat during last week's game.
