THE WESTERN Bulldogs are hopeful Tom Boyd and Hayden Crozier will prove their fitness for Sunday's match against West Coast at Optus Stadium.

Boyd (back soreness) and Crozier (hamstring) both missed Saturday's loss against Melbourne, but the pair may make the trip to Perth if they pass fitness tests.

Medical services manager Chris Bell told westernbulldogs.com.au he was optimistic the duo would be available for selection.

"During the Hawthorn game (in round 16), Tom Boyd had some acute lumbar spine disc symptoms, (and) his back went into spasm for 4-5 days following the game," Bell said.

"In the last 24 hours he has really started to improve, so we'll work with Tom this week to determine his availability towards the back end of the week.

"Hayden had some hamstring tightness last week.  It was really minor, but we weren't prepared to play Hayden and expose him to any risk.

"He's symptom-free on all our tests today, so we'll go through process with Hayden this week to determine his availability."

As expected, superstar playmaker Marcus Bontempelli won't make the trip west as he recovers from appendicitis.

"Marcus is continuing to recover really well from the removal of his appendix," Bell said.

"At this stage he won't play this weekend but he's on track to resume the following week against Port Adelaide."

Ruckman Tom Campbell, who is yet to play a senior game this season, will be unavailable this week due to a persistent plantar fascia concern.

The out-of-contract 26-year-old is expected to return before season's end.

And it appears key forward Jack Redpath's season is over with a knee concern after he was registered as indefinite on the club's injury list.

The 27-year-old, who was added to the Dogs' leadership group this season, has only managed two games in 2018 due to problems with the knee he had reconstructed in 2016.
