ADELAIDE coach Don Pyke says with the season on the line his players found something extra in the final quarter to win a thrilling Showdown 45.

Adelaide's tilt at the finals appeared over when the Power scored consecutive goals and took a 10-point lead at the 18-minute mark of the final quarter.

The Crows had also lost Daniel Talia to injury in that dramatic final term.

But goals to Eddie Betts and Josh Jenkins saw them claim a remarkable victory.

Pyke said it was a fantastic effort.

"The evenness of the comp and the reality for one win or one loss sort of changes quite significantly where you sit in the context of the season," he said.

"For us we knew tonight was a vital win and that sits with the players.

"They're the ones with five, eight, 10 minutes to go they find a way to keep running to the contest keep competing really hard, keep winning that ground ball and that's what we did."

Meanwhile, Pyke stayed out of the debate surrounding Jenkins' controversial third goal.

"I didn't really look at it to be honest. I sort of said 'Did it or didn't it?' and when it came up with goal I was probably more worried about what it means with a minute and half to go, what structure do we want, how do we want to marshal the troops in that last little bit," he said.

The Crows poor run of injuries has continued with Talia's calf injury.

Pyke remains hopeful his key defender will play against the Giants next Saturday night.

"The calf is pretty sore now. I spoke to him after the game and he said, ‘I tried to get back out there, but I just couldn't go," he said.

"In some respects when you can't go you've got to make a braver decision at times than going back out there when you're on one leg.

"Hopefully he'll come up (for the Giants), obviously he'll do a fair bit of work this week to get himself right."

Richard Douglas and Mitch McGovern are a chance to return to the side. McGovern came close to playing against the Power despite suffering a shoulder injury against Melbourne.

"The way it was explained to me was there's a chance he's going continue to re-injure it at which point he wouldn't go forward," Pyke said.

"So, he gets to train over the weekend and that'll settle down and he should be good to go next week and Douglas the same."
