WEST Coast will be sweating on star forward Jack Darling's availability for the trip to face Brisbane in round 23 after he suffered concussion early in Sunday's loss to Melbourne.

Darling went down in the first quarter when he was rolled in a tackle by Oscar McDonald, the side of his head colliding with the hard Optus Stadium turf at the 10-minute mark.

The 26-year-old lay sprawled on the turf for more than 30 seconds before medical staff rushed to his aid.

The key forward jogged from the ground, assisted by physios, before he was assessed on the bench.

Darling eventually ran along the boundary and into the rooms for concussion testing. He didn't emerge at quarter-time and was ruled out for the game.

Speaking post-match, coach Adam Simpson had no medical update on Darling's condition, but hoped he would pull up OK for the trip to Queensland in seven days' time.

"I haven't had any conversation, I didn't see it, so I couldn't tell you where he's at," Simpson said.

"He couldn't come back on, but I don't think it's horrendous.

"He's OK, he's walking around, it's all fine there, but I couldn't tell you what's going to happen."

Darling going down compounded the absence of dual Coleman medallist Josh Kennedy and the Eagles couldn't match Melbourne's firepower without their leading goalkickers.

Kennedy will push to return from a hairline fracture in his leg for the Brisbane clash after missing the past four games.

West Coast faces a simple equation in round 23, needing to win to secure second spot and a home qualifying final.

If the Eagles lose, they will likely have to travel to Melbourne to face Richmond, Collingwood or Hawthorn at the MCG in the first week of finals.
