ADELAIDE skipper Taylor Walker will hit the track for the start of pre-season training after having surgery on his troublesome foot.

The 28-year-old underwent a minor procedure to repair the plantar fascia in his left foot on Monday morning.

Walker strained the plantar fascia ligament in his left foot in February.

He didn't have surgery, but spent two weeks in a moon boot, missed the Crows' pre-season games and their round one loss to Essendon.

Walker was never able to hit his stride after his interrupted pre-season, kicking  just 26 goals in 14 games.

He missed the round seven win over Gold Coast with a hamstring injury, then was out for three weeks between rounds 9-11 for a mid-season conditioning block of training.

Walker was suspended for one game for a bump on Geelong's Zach Tuohy in round 17, then handed a two-match, season-ending ban for a sling tackle on Greater Western Sydney midfielder Josh Kelly in their 14-point loss in Canberra in round 21.

Crows head of football Brett Burton said the club decided surgery was the best option given Walker would miss the final two games of the season anyway.

"Importantly, he will be able to complete a thorough rehabilitation program and be ready to go for the start of pre-season training," Burton said.
