HAWTHORN defender James Frawley will be monitored ahead of the trip to Sydney for the top four-shaping clash against the Swans.

The veteran, who could be assigned the task of minding Lance Franklin, landed heavily in a marking contest with Tim Membrey in the second quarter of Saturday night's match against the Saints and didn't return.

Greater Western Sydney again took a massive hit on the injury front with veteran duo Ryan Griffen and Phil Davis both wounded in the loss to the Swans.

Griffen came off during the third term with a left hamstring issue and spent most of the remainder of the game on the bench iced up, while Davis was moved forward in the second half after suffering a corked hip in a collision with teammate Rory Lobb.

Port Adelaide recruit Jack Watts could be in doubt for Friday's do-or-die clash with Essendon. Watts went off after copping a knock to the knee late in the first quarter against Collingwood, before returning.

Jack Darling will need to tick all the boxes in order to board the plane to the Gabba to face Brisbane on Saturday, after he was left dazed from an Oscar McDonald tackle in the first quarter against the Demons on Sunday. The key forward failed the concussion test and didn't return.

The Western Bulldogs may take the conservative approach with superstar Marcus Bontempelli, who battled a back issue in Sunday's win over Carlton. Bontempelli also hurt his back in the round 21 win over North Melbourne.

Essendon will keep a watch on Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti, who came off late in Friday's loss to Richmond with an ankle problem. McDonald-Tipungwuti returned but he appeared somewhat hindered by the problem.

Adelaide defender Tom Doedee suffered a suspected broken collarbone during Sunday's win over North Melbourne. The incident occurred midway through the third quarter.

North Melbourne youngster Will Walker was in the wars on Sunday, first hurting his left ankle in the opening quarter before going down with a left knee injury in the third term. Walker appears likely to miss the Roos' round 23 clash with St Kilda.

Carlton on-baller Patrick Cripps will be assessed ahead of its match against Adelaide on Saturday night. Cripps took a hit to the stomach late in the game against the Bulldogs and walked off gingerly, before returning.

Alex Witherden injured his hamstring in the Lions' QClash win, and the young defender won't play against West Coast on Saturday night.

St Kilda veterans Jarryn Geary and Jack Steven could miss the Saints' final match of the season against North Melbourne on Sunday. Geary was forced from the field in the fourth quarter against the Hawks after copping an errant knee to the back of the head, while Steven appeared to be hampered by a knee issue late in the game.

In other injury news:

  • Richmond's Jason Castagna left the field in the second quarter with a sore quad but returned and played out the game. Teammate Ryan Garthwaite also came back on after splitting his head open
  • Jordan De Goey sat out the closing stages of Saturday's big win over Port Adelaide with ice on his leg, however Nathan Buckley stressed that this was a precautionary measure
  • Melbourne's Michael Hibberd had his hamstring tested during the third quarter of Sunday's huge win in the west but looked fine when he resumed. And Tom McDonald came off late in the final term with a sore right shoulder but he should be right to tackle the Giants
  • Geelong's Scott Selwood copped a poke in the eye during the first half against Fremantle but was able to finish out the game. With the match safely in the Cats' keeping, Daniel Menzel, who has been troubled by groin issues this season, and Harry Taylor, who has had a foot problem in 2018, were rested late in the game
  • Greater Western Sydney's Daniel Lloyd received a cut to the face but returned, and Jeremy Finlayson limped off the third quarter with a left leg issue before coming back on to finish the match
  • Fremantle's Nathan Wilson spent some time on the bench after being on the receiving end of a crunching Mitch Duncan tackle in the second term. The defender came back and finished the match
  • St Kilda defender Jake Carlisle, who was a late withdrawal against the Hawks with a sore back and the birth of his first child, is expected to play against North Melbourne
  • Carlton's Sam Petrevski-Seton came off in the second quarter against the Dogs under the blood rule but returned soon after. Star forward Charlie Curnow went down to the rooms at three-quarter time for some treatment, but reappeared and finished the game
  • Adelaide appears to have come through Sunday's match unscathed; however, it did lose Brodie Smith (corked calf) before the game
