LANCE Franklin is in doubt for this week's massive clash with Hawthorn at the SCG, with the superstar forward battling a groin problem.

The absence of the gun goalkicker would be a huge blow for the home side's chances of beating the Hawks and grabbing the vital double chance for the finals.

Franklin limped from the field in the dying stages of the Swans' 20-point win over Greater Western Sydney on Saturday night, and was immediately spoken to by the club's medical staff.

The 31-year-old was once again the match-winner for the visitors with five goals against the Giants, giving him 57 for the season.

Sydney will train at the SCG on Tuesday and Thursday, and while the Coleman Medal contender isn't expected to take to the track, that’s nothing new for Franklin this season.

He has struggled to train regularly this year because of heel and knee issues but has increased his involvement in recent weeks and has booted 15.14 in his last four matches.

The Swans are unlikely to take any risk with their number one player despite the high stakes involved in this week's game, with the winner of the clash to seal a place in the top four with the finals just a fortnight away.

Young forward Jordan Dawson was managed last week, so is a contender to replace Franklin if he doesn't face the Hawks, with the versatile Dean Towers another candidate.
