WILSTON Grange and East Fremantle are the respective premiers in the QWAFL and WAWFL competitions.

Here are summaries of the two grand finals played last Sunday.

QWAFL

Wilston Grange Gorillas defeated the Coorparoo Kings by 14 points at Leyshon Park in Yeronga, with the club's maiden premiership capping a tremendous season.

The Gorillas lost only one match during the home and away campaign and won the Grand Final 5.7 (37) to 3.5 (23).

More than 2000 fans witnessed Wilston Grange's historic triumph, with defender Kate Lutkins winning the best on ground medal.

The Brisbane Lions AFLW player was pivotal in defence for the Gorillas, taking a number of intercept marks.

She also provided plenty of run and carry in attack and was rewarded with a goal in the third quarter to give Wilston Grange an eight-point lead.

"The game isn't over until it's over, and we had to keep working hard to the end," Lutkins said.

Brittany Gibson played a starring role in the third quarter, booting one of Wilston Grange's three goals to give it a 15-point lead at the final change.

Gibson signed with North Melbourne for its inaugural AFLW season. She demonstrated her versatility in a role that saw her move between the midfield and forward line.

It was the Kings who got off to a flying start, with Brisbane AFLW forward Jess Wuetschner kicking the first major of the game.

When Samantha Hurst slotted the Kings' second in as many minutes, the Gorillas were on the backfoot. They steadied with a long goal to Jordan Membrey late in the first term to trim the deficit to eight points at the first change.

Wilston Grange gained the ascendancy in the second quarter, with Jamie Stanton kicking the goal of the day from the boundary line, as the Gorillas took a one-goal lead to half-time.

Wuetschner kicked the Kings' solitary goal after quarter-time, as they struggled up forward. Her Lions teammate Ally Anderson was the Kings' best player, working tirelessly around the stoppages to provide first use for her side.

WAWFL

The East Fremantle Sharks claimed their first WAWFL premiership since 2011, with a five-point win over the Subiaco Lions at Claremont Oval.

The ground was bathed in sunshine as more than 2500 fans saw the Sharks win 6.5 (41) to 5.6. (36).

Fremantle AFLW player Ashlee Atkins got the Sharks off to a perfect start, booting a goal in the first minute of the game to set the tone.

The Sharks' intensity across the ground was too much for the Lions initially.

Subiaco worked itself into the match and managed to curtail East Fremantle's momentum to trail by only 13 points at quarter-time.

The second quarter was the highest scoring term of the match, with each side booting three majors.

Subiaco needed a spark in the third quarter and they got it from ex-Docker Amy Lavell. The crafty forward kicked her second major of game to draw the Lions to within a point.

Scores were tied at the last change, with Subiaco taking a two-point lead midway through the final quarter.

Kahra Sprlyan's second goal with just seven minutes remaining gave the Sharks their only goal of the second half, and it proved to be the match-winner.

The ball was locked inside the Lions' forward line in the closing stages, but they couldn't conjure a shot at goal.

Subiaco ruck Danika Pisconeri, who gave her midfielders repeated first use of the ball in a rugged contest, won the Lou Knitter Medal for best on ground.

East Fremantle coach Nikki Harwood said she was expecting a tough contest and was thrilled with how her team responded.

"Subiaco are a quality outfit – they're hard and tough," she said.

"We went out and fought for the full 80 minutes and never gave up."
