North's Arden Street headquarters is set for a huge upgrade

NORTH Melbourne will start work early next month on a $10 million redevelopment of its Arden Street headquarters that will transform the club's training oval into a match-ready venue for AFLW and VFL games next year.

North announced on Wednesday it had appointed construction company Harris HMC to complete the project, the first stage of which will involve the installation of AFLW facilities including changerooms, lockers and a players' lounge.

The project will eventually see oval lighting, a scoreboard, interchange benches, coach's boxes and a media tower installed in readiness for North's entry into the AFLW competition next season.

The redevelopment was made possible by the generosity of Kangaroos supporters and club benefactors, who donated $1.3 million in a 24-hour fundraiser last month.

"The redevelopment will see Arden Street transformed into a state-of-the-art facility and ensure we embed our club in an inner-city location for years to come," North CEO Carl Dilena said.

"Our recent fundraising campaign is the reason we have been able to progress this so quickly.

"Ensuring the facilities are ready for our inaugural AFLW season is the main priority and we're well and truly on track."

The initial works are expected to be finished by December 21, with the project scheduled for completion by April 2019.
