Karl Amon is keen to return to Victoria

HAWTHORN and St Kilda have emerged as suitors for Port Adelaide's Karl Amon as the wingman pursues a move home to Victoria.

Amon is contracted for 2019 but AFL.com.au revealed two weeks ago the 23-year-old had indicated a desire to return to his home state, a request Port is happy to entertain if it is offered a suitable trade.

WHEN DOES TRADE PERIOD START? All the key dates

It's understood the Hawks and Saints have signalled their interest in the outside speedster, with the Hawks having met with him recently.

The No.68 pick in 2013's NAB AFL Draft, Amon has played 42 games in his five seasons at the Power, but just six in 2018 when he spent extended stints in the SANFL.

WHO'S LEAVING YOUR CLUB? All the latest retirements and delistings

Amon's bid to cement a senior spot was not helped by injury. A concussion in round seven broke a run of four straight senior games, while he suffered a season-ending knee injury in the round 18 loss to Greater Western Sydney just a week after earning a recall.

He subsequently underwent surgery to correct a lateral meniscus tear, but is expected to resume running in time for pre-season training.

Amon's future might not be clear until late in the NAB AFL Period, which starts next Monday (October 8), given Hawthorn and St Kilda are pursuing bigger fish.

Both clubs have made Giants midfielder Dylan Shiel a priority signing, the Hawks are also circling Port forward/midfielder Chad Wingard and Gold Coast full-back Steven May, while the Saints are poised to secure contracted Swan Dan Hannebery and Demon Dean Kent in trades.
