JACK Hombsch could be the second contracted Port Adelaide defender to find a new home during the NAB AFL Trade Period.

The 25-year-old has played 98 AFL games – 91 for the Power from 2013-18 and nine for Greater Western Sydney in 2012  and is contracted for 2019.

But the key backman was told at his exit meeting he wasn't guaranteed regular senior football next year with young defenders Tom Clurey and Dougal Howard having moved ahead of him and rookie Jarrod Lienert's impressive introduction.

"(Jack) is a victim of circumstance," the Power's general manager of football, Chris Davies, told NAB AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday.

"In fairness to someone like Jack, who is an outstanding person, we want to make sure that we're looking after these guys, saying, you're depth at our club at the moment.

"That's not saying you can't push forward into our best team, but for someone like Jack, you make the decision on what you want for the rest of your career.

"I'd be surprised if there wasn't interest in him because he's a quality human and you know what you're going to get from a playing perspective.

"I imagine that will play out later in the Trade Period if there's a couple of clubs that want his services.

"If he ends up at our club in 2019, that won't be a bad outcome for us."

The Power traded half-back flanker Jasper Pittard, along with winger Jared Polec, to North Melbourne on Wednesday.

Pittard, 27, also had limited opportunities this year, playing 11 games, with Dan Houston and Riley Bonner becoming regular contributors, while Hamish Hartlett and Matthew Broadbent will return from long-term injuries next year.

"We had a discussion with Jasper in his exit interview to say, we've probably had a number of other defenders who have taken some steps forward," Davies said.

"Jasper's been a fantastic servant for our club and a guy who really cares about our group.

"We gave Jasper the opportunity, if you want to leave the club in search for greater opportunities, we're OK with you looking at that."

Davies said there had been no change around the future of forward/midfielder Chad Wingard, who has been linked to the Western Bulldogs and Hawthorn.

"Chad needs to make the first call if he wanted to leave the club to let us know and we'll think about what happens from there," Davies said.

"Chad is contracted for next year and a player of his quality, we would be reticent in letting go.

"We'd be thinking Chad will be with us in 2019 unless anything significant changes in the short term."
