JACK Lonie is set to remain with St Kilda after the club increased its offer to the small forward by an extra season.

AFL.com.au understands a two-year contract is now on the table, with Lonie expected to sign the improved deal when he returns from a trip to Europe to attend Saints skipper Jarryn Geary's wedding in Portugal.

A second successive one-year deal had been the Saints' offer for some time despite the crafty goalsneak's impressive finish to the season that saw him kick 11 goals in the last five games of the Saints' poor 2018 campaign.

Champion Data rates Lonie elite for score assists this year and above average for kicking efficiency and forward-half pressure.

The 22-year-old had been exploring opportunities at rival clubs, with Collingwood a possible new home after he met with Magpies coach Nathan Buckley last month.

Carlton also inquired about his services.

The Dandenong Stingrays product, who has kicked 44 goals in 50 senior games, is happy at Moorabbin, but was seeking the security of a longer-term contract.

Recruited with pick 41 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft, Lonie quickly found his feet in his debut season of 2015, playing 17 games, kicking 12 goals and earning a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination.

His recommitment to the club comes as the Saints re-signed rookies Darragh Joyce and Doulton Langlands to one-year extensions on Tuesday.
