Blues delist four players after Trade Period

DEFENDER Sam Rowe's career is set to end on 99 games after the Carlton defender was one of four players delisted by the club on Thursday.

Rowe, 30, was cut from the Blues' list after the final day of the NAB AFL Trade Period, along with Jed Lamb, Sam Kerridge and Nick Graham.

However, Lamb will train with the club ahead of the November NAB AFL Draft and could potentially be re-listed.  

The Blues got busy during the Trade Period and acquired four players – Mitch McGovern, Alex Fasolo, Will Setterfield and Nic Newman – without losing any.

The four delisted players join Ciaran Byrne, Cillian McDaid, Alex Silvagni and Matthew Wright (all retired) and Jesse Glass-McCasker, Aaron Mullett, Cam O'Shea and Matthew Shaw as players departing the club.

Rowe played 17 games this year, which leaves him stranded on 99 after a career defined by persistence.

He spent four seasons playing for SANFL team Norwood before being drafted by the Blues, having been previously been on Sydney's rookie list.

He made his AFL debut in 2013, a year after undergoing six weeks of chemotherapy to treat testicular cancer.

Lamb played 29 games for the Blues between 2016-18 and is currently on 66 AFL games after stints at the Swans and Giants. 

Kerridge, a former Crow, played 42 games in the navy blue, taking him to 69, while Graham played 48 games across six seasons. 

"I'd like to sincerely thank Sam, Jed, Sam and Nick for their contribution, commitment and professionalism throughout their time at the Blues," head of football Brad Lloyd said. 

"Sam Rowe has been a wonderful player and clubman since he arrived at the club and has overcome his fair share of adversity in that time. 

"The perseverance and resilience he's shown has made a tremendous impact on our developing playing group. 

"Jed and Sam Kerridge are both terrific young men and have been valuable contributors to the side since arriving at Ikon Park at the end of 2015.

"As a respected member of the squad, Nick has consistently held himself to high standards around the club and has always played his role for the team.

"Sam, Jed, Nick and Sam will always be Carlton people and we wish them all the best for the future." 

Meanwhile, rookie forward Kym Lebois has signed a one-year rookie contract for 2019.
