PORT Adelaide defender Dan Houston has signed a three-year contract extension.

The 21-year-old's new deal will see him stay at Alberton until at least the end of 2022.

Houston has played 39 games with the club after being selected with pick No.45 in the 2016 NAB AFL Rookie Draft and he was upgraded to the senior list last month.

"It was an easy decision for me to sign on," Houston said.

"I’m really settled in Adelaide, I’ve got a lot of good friends here and Port Adelaide has made me feel welcome from day one.

"At the I had to earn the respect of the players and coaches and work my way up but I have managed to string some games together and now I want to cement my spot, keep improving and become more of a leader."

General manager of football Chris Davies said the Power were thrilled to re-sign Houston.

"Dan is an outstanding person with a strength of character that has endeared him to both his teammates and the rest of the football department," he said.

"As a we are pleased with his development and we believe he has a long future as a Port Adelaide player."
