THE BERRY brothers will be together at Brisbane, and the Lions would have had a pair of Camerons as well, if not for West Coast matching a bid on Jarrod.

Tom Berry was drafted at pick No.36 on Friday at Marvel Stadium to join his elder sibling and young gun Jarrod.

Berry, who played for the Greater Western Victoria Rebels in the TAC Cup, is an athletic midfielder who stands 185cm and has a competitive streak.

Brisbane recruiting manager Steve Conole told reporters Berry had recovered from the knee issue that kept him from testing at the NAB AFL Draft Combine.

"We were rapt to get Thomas. It's a fantastic family and he's obviously got really strong connections to the club already," Conole said.

"We think he can play a variety of roles. He's really quick and he'll complement our forward and midfield group.

"He's back in training and he did his 2km (time trial) really well last well."

Berry had wrist surgery in July.

The Lions' bid for the younger Cameron at No.39 was unsuccessful.

"I would've thought if you had a forward line with those two boys, it'd be pretty exciting," Conole said.

"We thought we'd throw our hat in the ring and West Coast matched."

Bolstering the onball unit was a priority, hence Ely Smith's selection at No.21 on Thursday night, but he probably won't make an immediate impact.

"We really targeted a midfielder, a big-bodied midfielder that could help us around the contest, and we think he can do that," Conole said.

"He's a big strong body, but for his size he's got fantastic athleticism.

"He'll take a little while. He's just come into the Murray Bushrangers' program in the last 18 months."

Backman Noah Answerth went at No.55 and would likely have been drafted last year had a serious back injury not ruined his 2017.

"We were pretty close to taking Noah last year, to be honest, but we didn't have a rookie pick," Conole said.

"We watched him this year coming back from his injury and it's a credit to the way he's prepared himself. He's captained the Oakleigh Chargers and he's worked with Vic Metro."

Brisbane also recruited hard-running midfielder Tom Joyce from East Fremantle at No.40, along with Lions Academy member and strong-bodied midfielder Connor McFadyen at No.42.
