NORTH Melbourne midfielder Ben Cunnington is eyeing a return to AFL action next season after receiving further good news in the wake of successful surgery to remove a testicular tumour.

Cunnington, who has not played since round 19, had surgery on July 27.

He took to social media on Friday evening to thank fans for their messages of support in recent weeks.

The 30-year-old also extended his well-wishes to Carlton co-captain Sam Docherty, who announced this week he is going through his second battle with testicular cancer.

"Recently, I had successful surgery to remove a cancerous tumour and at this point in time, my news is good news and there will be limited, if any, ongoing treatment," Cunnington said in an Instagram post.

"But I have to remain vigilant over the next few years and have regular checkups to ensure the cancer doesn't return.

"I want to encourage anyone that suspects that something isn't quite right with their body or health, to be brave and speak to a professional.

"Even if you think everything is fine, get a regular check and make sure."

Cunnington has returned to North Melbourne in a part-time capacity since his surgery last month.

"I've been able to get back to Arden St and see the boys and help out at training, and will be looking forward to spending some more time with my family on the farm ahead of season 2022," he posted.
