FORMER Sydney Swans full-forward Barry Hall is on the verge of joining the Western Bulldogs, according to separate reports in the The Age and Herald Sun newspapers.

It’s believed Hall will nominate the Dogs as his preferred club next season after being offered a two-year deal.

Hall, 32, told The Age that Whitten Oval appeared to be the best fit for him to reignite his AFL career, which came to a halt in June after a spate of on-field indiscretions.

The Swans want to be compensated for the seven-time leading goalkicker, but say they’ll work with Hall’s club of choice to facilitate a trade.

Melbourne and Carlton will also do business during trade week after reaching an in-principle agreement, which will see star onballer Brock McLean in the navy blue next year.

McLean, 23, told the Demons on Monday that he wanted to continue his 94-game career with Carlton.

The Blues have agreed to give up their first pick, No. 11, in November’s NAB AFL Draft in exchange for the gritty midfielder.

The deal is subject to the completion of medical screenings and the finalisation of paperwork during the exchange period, which starts on 5 October.

Port Adelaide vice-captain Shaun Burgoyne has chosen Hawthorn over other potential suitors Essendon and Melbourne as his preferred destination for 2010.

However, the Power have already indicated they’re willing to play hardball at the trade table and Burgoyne will face a nervous wait to see if an agreement between the two clubs can be reached.

i think that hall could very well fit in but as its been mwentioned before his temper will get the better of him which is a huge conundrum beacuase the bulldogs need a tall forward but r they willing to sacrifice there reputation. i think they wont and they will tear up his contract when he commits a wrong doing

Bazza will be a great fit at the Dogs. Keep Hahn at CHF, and Baz can lead out of the goal square. He'll be a great replacement for Welshy because he has the extra height, strength and speed off the mark. Plus he has great foward line pressure, and takes the oppositions best defender, freeing up blokes like Hahn Ice, Johnno and Aker. Go the mighty Dogs!

I'll be booking my full membership so I can get a Grand Final seat in 2010 as soon as it is available.
If he is fit and can keep a cool head, we will break the longest drought in the AFL and win the flag by a long way. We've got one of the best mid fields going around and it will only improve with guys like Griffin Ward Cooney Higgins, all maturing. A solid Backline, especially if Williams can hold up. We have classy small forwards in Gia, Murphy, Johno, Hill, Aka if he plays on. A power forward will only bring these players into the game more and is a perfect solution. Go Dogs

Maybe...maybe not (a good idea). For their sake, you'd hope the bulldogs cover themselves and only give him a one year, strictly performance based contract. Thats more than he deserves. He could always go play NRL. He'd fit right in there.

Big Baz shouldn't be allowed to play to afl footy, he's too much of a liability

I agree with joe that Hall won't be able to control himself and will be more of a negative than a positive. Bulldogs are too disciplined - he obviously doesn't put the team first. Would have loved to see him go boxing where they are the same size and allowed to hit back

he will so get suspended within the first 8 weeks of next season if he plays for any team which looks like been the bulldogs

Bad plan i think.. he isnt really the pack mark they want, more a lead up player now.. and i dont think he is all there anymore..

Barry Hall is the answer to the western bulldogs lacking forward line depite having one of the best records for kicking goals, barry hall will bring a much needed focal point or get out option when kicking into the forward line. Barry will kick a minimuim of 60 goals for the bulldogs

"I dont think Barry Hall is a good fit for the dogs and will regret picking him up, when he's sitting out half a season for his stupid onfield actions, which will continue."

he has something to prove and will be out there to prove people like you wrong

At age 32 Barry Hall will be a contributor to the Western Bulldogs, not a defining factor, and an option in the forward line the Bulldogs have lacked in the last few years. He will prolong Brad Johnson's career and will know from the outset that if he doesn't adapt he's gone. It's a low risk move for the bulldogs; they are required to give Sydney next to nothing for him so they won't lose much if it doesn't work out. Also, if Everitt is traded to Carlton, lookout for Andrew Walker in return. High draft pick, like Everitt, but is no longer a protected species at Carlton. If a deal to that end comes through, the Bulldogs' forward line will go from bare to formidable.

BH WILL work at the dogs. People get hung up on the whole 'they are fast, it'll ruin the structure thing'. But it's not that simple. Barry is excellent at breaking the lines and creating crumbs. Sometimes creating a spillage, rather than a tall defender marking is just as important as a goal. Of course there is a question mark over his behaviour, but if the footy world gave Cousins a (deserved) second chance, why not Barry. The ball is in his court now, and the fit for him and the dogs is the best possible.

Good on the dogs if they sign him,I think he would have been great at collingwood,we need a hall like foward, show no fear, and tear backman apart.

I Think Barry Will Be A Big Help For The Dogs Next Year, But I'm Not Sure He'll Help Them Win A Premiership. They Need Another Tall Foward To Win A Premiership.

i think hall would be a great asset to the bulldogs line up although it could make there forward half slower so it will be interesting to see if he joins how he adapts to a quick forward half

Barry Hall will not work at the Dogs. He will alter their structure too much and they'll lose what makes them different.
