FORMER Sydney Swans full-forward Barry Hall is on the verge of joining the Western Bulldogs, according to separate reports in the
The Age and
Herald Sun newspapers.
It’s believed Hall will nominate the Dogs as his preferred club next season after being offered a two-year deal.
Hall, 32, told The Age that Whitten Oval appeared to be the best fit for him to reignite his AFL career, which came to a halt in June after a spate of on-field indiscretions.
The Swans want to be compensated for the seven-time leading goalkicker, but say they’ll work with Hall’s club of choice to facilitate a trade.
Melbourne and Carlton will also do business during trade week after reaching an in-principle agreement, which will see star onballer Brock McLean in the navy blue next year.
McLean, 23, told the Demons on Monday that he wanted to continue his 94-game career with Carlton.
The Blues have agreed to give up their first pick, No. 11, in November’s NAB AFL Draft in exchange for the gritty midfielder.
The deal is subject to the completion of medical screenings and the finalisation of paperwork during the exchange period, which starts on 5 October.
Port Adelaide vice-captain Shaun Burgoyne has chosen Hawthorn over other potential suitors Essendon and Melbourne as his preferred destination for 2010.
However, the Power have already indicated they’re willing to play hardball at the trade table and Burgoyne will face a nervous wait to see if an agreement between the two clubs can be reached.
