PORT Adelaide onballer Shaun Burgoyne will join Hawthorn next season as part of a four-club trade.

The deal also sees Hawk forward Mark Williams sign a three-year deal with Essendon, and Bomber Jay Nash move to Port Adelaide.

The Power also receive two first-round draft picks: No.9 (from Hawthorn) and 16 (from Essendon, on-traded by Hawthorn).

Geelong, the fourth club involved in the trade, has parted with draft pick 33 in exchange for three additional picks. The Cats took draft selections 40 and 56 from Port Adelaide, and 42 from Essendon.

In a further exchange of draft picks, Essendon receives No.24 (from Port Adelaide), and Geelong's 33.

Relations between the Power and Hawthorn appeared strained on Wednesday after Hawks president Jeff Kennett stymied a potential deal involving defender Campbell Brown.

But on Thursday night, Power football operations manager Peter Rohde confirmed an agreement had been reached.

The complicated arrangement leaves Port Adelaide with three picks in the first round of November’s NAB AFL Draft – No.8, 9 and 16 – which Rohde said was a "terrific position".

"We wish Shaun all the best at Hawthorn," he added.

"We are also delighted to have secured Jay Nash from Essendon.

"We have had our eye on Jay since he was drafted and really rate him as a half-back or onballer."

Hawthorn player and personnel manager Chris Pelchen said the Hawks were delighted to have wrapped up the Williams deal as part of the Burgoyne trade.

"Williams had a contract with Hawthorn for the 2010 season but received an offer for three years from Essendon and requested to be traded," Pelchen said in a statement.

He said Burgoyne was a quality player of outstanding character.

"He offers us another highly talented option in our midfield and we look forward to seeing him in the brown and gold next year."

Think the Hawks relly should have aimed to grab a Ruckman from Sydney in the Trade for McGlynn and Kennedy.
Now dealing with Williams deal: Now I guess that's considered a loss since he was the backup to Buddy and Roughy. I guess this means more duties for Cyril, Ozzy and Cam Stokes.
I don't know what Clarko saw in Burgoyne, but he did something in Stewie Dew and that worked out, so we'll see where this goes. Gibson will have to be seen to be believed, just because he plays well on Buddy is no reason to hype him up yet.
Other than that Hawks Premiers 2010.

All this about Port doing well and how young their list will be. All that means is they are rebuilding yet again. Hawks to me do not need early draft picks. Sure there is a need for a ruckman. But their list is still very young. Last years premiership thrust them into the limelight well and truely. But their oldest player was Croad. This draft has been touted as lacking in depth and as everybody knows. Just because you have high draft picks does not necessarily equal getting superstars. Not every player develops into something special and majority take 3 to 4 years. I am a Hawks supporter through and through. Clearly this season they lacked a wise crafty midfielder. Last year Crawford led the way in this department. They now have potential in Shaun. It is a risk with his injuries but I believe in Clarko. Especially what he did with Dew. I believe that giving up Willo is maybe suggesting Cyril will be played in a small forward role. I was disappointed in losing McGlynn cause I think he always gives you that hard running. But cannot fault a player who wants to go. Cant wait for next year. Go HAWKS.

At first i was upset burgoyne is gone, hes a quality player and we'll miss him. but we have 3 first round picks which is great and apparently nash isn't bad, so I think we'll be alright next year
GO POWER 2010!

port adelaide clearly are now the youngest team in the afl.... with 3 picks in the first round.... 8, 9, and 16 plus jay shultz and jay nash both under 24, then with the loss of both burgers and brendan lade, we will be the youngest team along with essendon and hawthorn not far behind. hopefully they can sort there stadium deal out and sponsors and get some money flowing into the club again... it is our turn to have some tough times but we are turning the corner.... these 'tough' days are numbered.... come on port fans, sign up for 2010 and get behing the club!!!

Unlucky Jay Nash and Jay Schultz... perhaps the only to players in the league who would go to port.... enjoy playing infront of 15,000 fans every week... and as for the draft picks, you will have to feel sorry for who ever gets drafted to port... as no 'decent' players want to play there anyway eg. shaun burgoyne, nick stevens and to a extent josh carr (unfortunately not even port is as bad as fremantle)

Nassas Heso on 1:10 PM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

So nash is a dud? Dont think so. Just like Kingsley was a dud and was discarded by essendon? hahaah you bomber fans crack me up. Kingsley became a premiership player..what did the bombers get? BEANS! hahaha

Can't stop laughing at all the port supporters saying how well they've done to get Nash and those picks.
Certainly handy to get a couple of first round picks, but Nash didn't get a game at Ess, and would've been delisted if no one took him off our hands.
Good kick, but very slow. Enjoy Port.

What were Hawthorn thinking? They said this year they were going to add to their list for all out assault on 2010.
Yet in space of few hours they trade three players to get one who is trouble and has a bad knee? Why?
This makes no sense and yet again is a complete balls up by Hawthorn in trade week...something they should just steer clear of as they never get it right.
So much for increasing depth, lose Dew & Campbell to retirement and then Williams, McGlynn and Kennedy are traded.
Gain Burgoyne and Gibson and yet still don't have an early pick in the draft...how again does this make sense?

Sponzinator on 12:30 PM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

yes agreed scott lol
Ye the power did well to get 3 first round draft picks but now thats the only 3 they have. with 3 retirees that means they dont have to delist anyone which shouldnt happen coz alot of player like giles, lower, thompson need to get the flick. why did we end the hawks trade losing another pick?

scott on 12:04 PM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

hahahaha im lovin the hawks comments sayin how great burgoyne is etc, when 2 days ago when port were offered brown, burgonyne was a dud with a bad knee

Craig on 12:04 PM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

Can't believe this went through....Port the clear winner. For Burgoyne and picks 24,40,46 they received Nash and picks 9 and 16.

As much as I hate to say it (I'm an Adelaide supporter) ...well done Port.

Sponzinator on 11:47 AM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

Terrific work Peter Rohde should be applauded for what he's done this trade week great work in rebuilding our side. Look out for Port maybe using pick 16 to snare a player and draft pick..

I also believe Nash has a good future ahead of him and will see him fit in nicely on our half backline allowing salopek to roam more in the midfield. PAFC '10

Great Trade all-round even though im a Hawks Supporter its good to see willo go to a club where he can return to his best again
im a bit dissapointed that hawks have no high draft picks (we need a ruckman bigtime)

Good to see a trade where all three players are getting something out of it. Burgoyne should do well at Hawthorn. Perhaps Franklin or Roughhead in the Ruck?!

not happy losing williams! we shouldnt let any premiership player go - hope it works out for the best. cant stand trade week.

Well J Kennet, don't you look like a clown now - you just traded a premiership player - and the world knows Browny was up for grabs - who is really in charge in Hawthorn - obviously not you.

Ben on 10:54 AM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

Adrian I far from think Port do terrible at the trade table, Port have over time been pretty good. they gained hardwick and Pickett for nothing a few years back, they did lose Nick stevens for nothing as well, but that was out of principle.

Anyway this deal seems like a real win for Port, and i think the others would be happy too.

Dale on 10:52 AM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

Pelchen is a mastermind. Burgoyne is a great pickup. All-Australian, premiership player and their vice-captain. To add a player of his ability, possibly to a back flank, gives us a genuine midfield rotation that doesnt see the resting player in the backline. Clinton Young, Michael Osborne, Xavier Ellis, Rick Ladson and Trent Croad- played a combined 36 games this year. Mark Williams has been a very serviceable player in his time but knew his opportunities were limited now. Good on him for going for a 3 year deal. As for the ruck, well, we still got draft picks..
HAWKS 2010!!

Essendon should trade Matthew Knights for for a $50 bunnings voucher. The guy has no idea.

Best wishes to the boys departing, Willo GREAT effort in GF. So I've got to put up with Simon again I don't think my TV can take it. Gibson-good, but are we going to stick Shaun on a rack to get a ruckman out of him. Next you'll be saying Judge is coming back. Go Hawks

david on 10:18 AM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

If burgoyne can do for the hawks in 2010 what Dew did for us in 2008 then it is a huge win. Trust in Clarko and Pelchen.

Good luck to williams, he will get better opportunities at Essendon

Stingray on 10:10 AM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

Burgoyne great get,sit him on a wing with Rioli and let Mitchell,Sewell,Lewis and Hodge get the hard ball and let them run.Franklin and Big Red will get some very good delivery.Williams will be a lose however foward pockets are easy to replace. GO HAWKS

tony on 10:06 AM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

Go Hawks!!
Let's face it, Williams best days are behind him, plus he's the one that asked for a trade. And it was the only way we were going to get Burgy!

But can we pull one more magic out of the hat, and land a true ruckman !! What will happen when Taylor get reported (which he will), or if Renouf gets injured??
We will surely struggle as we did this season.
Come on Hawks, one last effort to get a ruckman (Plz, that does NOT include Josh Frazer, unless he come over for free!!).

Mark Williams for Nash and Pick 16, Essendon got ripped off. Should have just given up Nash.

Tom, Mark Williams will be the Bombers leading goal scorer next year. He will kick more goals next year than Lloyd has in the past 3 years. A premiership player who WON the Hawks the premiership with his 5 minute cameo alongside Stuart Dew.

Good Luck Mark, Josh and Ben at their new clubs next year.

burgoyne great pick up and the person saying his knee better be ok is bilnd, didntyou see williams do his knee this year and the other year , he has bone on bone in his knee so it was a good trade.

Mick on 9:46 AM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

Cmon guys, I think the clubs know what they are doing and more than us. Williams who only had year left on his contract opted to leave the Hawks for a three year deal at Essendon. Jolly only wanted to go to Collingwood and did not want to be traded to Hawthorn. Burgoyne if fit can be a top ten player in the league. And all the draft picke involved seem fair.

Jim on 9:43 AM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

BIG win for Port. Burgoyne is an inconsistent superstar who is very injury prone.

Port are usually terrible at the trade table. Good to see now that they are ripping people off not getting ripped off.

Port should think about using their pick 8 or 9 to make a play for Fevola or Ball

Adrian on 9:33 AM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

Seems like the Hawks lost out here, surely they could've got Jolly for three players and early draft pick. That would've filled the real deficiency which is the ruck. Burgyone will need to play really really well to convince me the Hawks did the right thing

flash on 9:27 AM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

well simon, why the hawks didnt go for jolly is bemusing.....your ruck stocks have been and still are dreadful

SImon on 9:23 AM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

The real problem for Hawthorn is who is going to take the ruck duties. Losing Campbell hurts the Hawks, Taylor and Renouff are not good enough to win big games. Hawthorn should have looked to have picked up Jolly or at least Mumford. The Hawks don't need a player like Burgyone. His name sold him before the trade was even made. Fingers crossed for Clarko on this one.

Burgoyne is an elite superstar and is the high class silky skilled midfielder we just dont have. williams asked to be traded. Wins all round for the mighty hawks Will!

Steve on 9:12 AM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

Will, Williams got an offer from essendon and wanted to go - 3 year deal. Burgoyne is a star, his knee must be right or pelchen wouldn't have got him! If his knee isn't well yes heads will role then!

Williams = dud
Burgyone = crippled dud
winner = port adelaide

Hate to say it but port win with this trade. A great defender and bloke in Nash, and now having three picks in the first round. Stupid hawthorn and essendon.

Will on 8:59 AM Friday, October 09, 2009 said:

As a Hawthorn supporter I say this old bloke that is on crutches better be worth 2 first round picks and the best kick in the league (Williams).

Port commoited daylight robbery because Clarko obviosly blinded by something we probably will not see in Shaun.
