RICHMOND'S season has ended on a sour note with Jake King accepting a one-match suspension for striking Justin Westhoff during Sunday’s 10-point loss to Port Adelaide at Etihad Stadium.

King was cited by the match review panel after he was captured on camera punching Westhoff in the ribs during the final quarter.

The Port player fell to the ground at the time, although no free kick was paid.

The contact only drew enough points to warrant a reprimand, but King’s poor record of three matches suspended within the past three years, meant the penalty was increased to a one-match ban, which could not be reduced with an early guilty plea because he also has carry-over points from his last suspension.

King will miss the first match of the 2011 season.

Hawthorn’s Michael Osborne is free to play in the Hawks’ elimination final against Fremantle at Subiaco on Saturday afternoon, despite attracting the attention of the match review panel on two occasions.

Contact between Osborne and Collingwood’s Alan Toovey, which occurred during the second quarter of the Hawks’ narrow win was assessed, but the panel ruled there was insufficient evidence to determine if a reportable offence had occurred.

Osborne was also cleared of an altercation with Luke Ball during the last quarter.

It was deemed that when Ball attempted to tackle Hawthorn’s Sam Mitchell, Osborne came in to shepherd for his teammate.

The panel said that given Osborne did not have a realistic chance to try and win possession of the ball or lay a tackle, the shepherding action was not considered to be a reportable offence.
