THE AFL may still sanction Brendan Fevola for his latest alleged indiscretion even if the Queensland Police do not lay criminal charges.

The Brisbane Lions full-forward is under police investigation for allegedly exposing himself to a woman at a football function in Brisbane last weekend.

AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou said the AFL could take action based on both the police investigation and the independent one that is yet to be conducted by the League.

“What we learn from the police is relevant and important and if the Queensland Police determine they want to take matters forward, that is relevant,” he said on Friday.

“If they determine they have no further action to take we would still reserve the right to conduct a further investigation.”

Demetriou confirmed that the woman at the centre of the allegation had made a formal complaint to the Queensland Police. He also said the AFL had been asked by the police to suspend its own inquiries until more information had been gathered.

The AFL has spoken to the woman involved but will not be taking any further steps until the conclusion of the police investigation.

Demetriou said he was disappointed this sort of incident was dominating headlines during the finals, but emphasised the importance of a thorough investigation.

He also said Fevola was entitled to a presumption of innocence.
