NORTH Melbourne ruckman Todd Goldstein has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Arden Street until the end of the 2014 season.

The 23-year-old, who has played 58 games for the club, has put to bed rumours that he could be a target of Greater Western Sydney, saying he wants to be part of the success he foresees at North in the coming years.

"The club is going in the right direction and hopefully the results will follow suit," Goldstein told the Herald Sun.

"With the talent we've got and Brad [Scott] at the helm, things are looking good. We're giving ourselves the best opportunity to succeed and I'm definitely backing this group.

"I would have thought coming off two ninth-placed finishes, a lot of players haven't played a finals game. I know I'm itching to get in there to experience it and see what we can do when we get in there."

Drafted with pick No.37 in 2006, the 201cm Goldstein was happy to put an end to any potentially distracting rumours about his future.

"It's good to get rid of the speculation and not have to worry about it coming into the season," he said.

"Last year with Gold Coast and now GWS, it really can become a bit of a circus and absorb everyone and take the team's focus away, so I'm glad to get something done early."

Goldstein is also anticipating forming a lethal ruck combination with returning big man Hamish McIntosh.

"We showed last year in the final round and the year before that we do have the opportunity to become a good team and within the team itself and to push this side along," Goldstein commented.

Goldstein now has two reasons to celebrate with news he and partner Kirsty are expecting their second child.
