HAWTHORN players Brad Sewell and Grant Birchall have re-committed to the club, signing on for another three years each.
The two were key planks in last season’s premiership team, with Sewell now one of the premier onballers in the competition and Birchall a crucial part of the Hawks’ defence.
Young defender Brendan Whitecross, who debuted in the opening round of 2009 and has since played 10 games, has also re-signed for two more seasons.
Hawthorn’s football manager Mark Evans said the re-signings showed a mutual commitment from the players and club.
“The next four to five years looks very promising for our club and it is very important to keep our playing group together,” Evans said.
“Whilst this continues to be a challenge for all clubs, we have established a strong team-culture at [Hawthorn] and it’s great that these three young men have committed themselves to our future.”
The re-signings are welcome news for the Hawks who have battled injuries and some indifferent form as they look to defend their premiership.
