COLLINGWOOD hopes to see Anthony Rocca back on the field this year despite the veteran forward again succumbing to injury.

Rocca is unlikely to see senior action for at least another month, with the Magpies deciding to spell the power forward after he felt soreness in the same achilles that troubled him earlier this season.

Rocca played VFL football for Collingwood two weeks ago but pulled up poorly, prompting the Magpies to rest him.

The 31-year-old, who has played just three senior matches so far this season after managing only eight last year, has been listed as 2-3 weeks away from resuming.

Collingwood forward Paul Medhurst was unaware of his teammate's latest setback when asked on Tuesday but said he wanted to see the burly goalkicker back later this season.

"We want him out there with us because he's been such a quality player for so long, so I think we'll see him back at some stage," he said.

Medhurst played in the VFL when Rocca last stepped out and said the club's most experienced player was keeping his chin up despite enduring a frustrating season.

"Unfortunately for him [Rocca] he's dealt with this sort of thing a fair bit throughout his career so he's pretty well versed in it," Medhurst said.

"But like I said, he's got the full support of the playing group and he's very professional and he keeps himself up and about.

"He'll give himself every possible opportunity to get back."
