FREMANTLE players Des Headland and Michael Walters have been caught up in a police investigation into a late-night brawl that took place in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Several people were treated for cuts and bruises, but no charges have been laid as yet. The investigation is continuing.

The club released a statement on Monday confirming that it had been made aware of the matter and spoken with both players.

"The Fremantle Football Club is aware of a matter involving players Des Headland and Michael Walters in Leederville on Saturday night," the statement said.

Football manager Chris Bond said the two players contacted club officials on the night to inform them of the matter.

"Because it is the subject of a police investigation, the club is not in a position to comment,” Bond said on Monday.

Neither player was involved in Saturday night's 15-point loss to the Brisbane Lions, with Headland battling a hamstring injury and Walters playing for WAFL side Swan Districts on Saturday.

This incident adds to a growing list of off-field misdemeanours that have soured an already unsuccessful season for the last-placed Fremantle.

Brett Peake and Dean Solomon have recently been disciplined for alcohol-related incidents.

Solomon was dropped for the round 14 loss to Carlton after a Melbourne drinking session with former Essendon teammate Mark McVeigh, while Peake was sent back to the WAFL for one week for a similar breach during the mid-season break.

Headland, who is apart of Fremantle's leadership group, was also dropped for the final home and away fixture last season for an alcohol-related breach.

The 28-year-old has battled a string of soft tissue injuries this season with calf, quad and now a hamstring injury keeping him to just four games.

He said last week he was aiming for a western derby return on Saturday.

Walters, 18, was drafted to Fremantle with pick No. 53 at the 2008 NAB AFL Draft and has played two games this season.
