Lion Proud found guilty of assault, escapes jail

9:02 PM Tue 28 July, 2009

BRISBANE Lion Albert Proud pleaded guilty to charges of assault in the Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday, and was sentenced to a three-month Intensive Correctional Order, two years probation and 100 hours community service.

The assault took place in February this year when Proud was involved in a glass-throwing incident in a Gold Coast bar, which injured two women.

Proud apologised to the two women and was also ordered to pay the pair $8000 in compensation.

The Brisbane Lions suspended Proud at the time of the incident, which resulted in him missing the Qantas indigenous All-Stars game and the first round of the NAB Cup. The club also directed him to complete a series of alcohol and anger management related courses.

The 20-year-old has played 13 games for the Lions this year.
