ALMOST 200 of the country's best young football talent will come under the watchful eyes of AFL recruiters and coaches, after the AFL picked 75 players to attend the NAB AFL Draft Camp and 123 to go to state screening sessions.

Set to be held in late September/early October, the Draft Camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra will produce the bulk of players set to be drafted in this year's NAB AFL Draft.

However, the state screenings have also grown in stature in recent years with several quality players emerging from these sessions.

Players from all states and territories will attend the Draft Camp and screenings.

The Draft Camp has lifted the rating of several players over the years, as far back as 2001 when David Rodan shone with his test results. Last year, Fremantle's Stephen Hill impressed significantly, pushing him to No.3 in the AFL Draft.

Last year's No.1 draft pick, Melbourne's Jack Watts, further enhanced his status with an excellent camp, which included the second best times for the 20-metre sprint (2.82 seconds) and agility run (8.03 seconds). He also ranked in the top 10 per cent at the camp for vertical leap and in repeat sprints.

The screenings from last year produced the likes of Liam Anthony, Hayden Ballantyne, Robin Nahas, Jack Redden and Shane Savage, who have all played AFL this season.

For the first time this year, the Draft Camp will feature a new kicking skill, created by outgoing AIS/AFL assistant coach and future Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley.

"AFL clubs will have access to more information about their potential recruits than ever before, while players will have the opportunity to showcase both their physical attributes and football skills," AFL talent and international manager Kevin Sheehan said.
