SPECULATION Melbourne star Aaron Davey will leave the ailing club is hotting up with reports the midfielder has been offered a four-year deal to join Essendon.

The Australian newspaper says the Bombers, who have cash to burn after the retirements of Matthew Lloyd and Scott Lucas, are willing to pay Davey as much as $2.3million over the term of the deal.

But the opportunity to play alongside his younger brother Alwyn could provide the biggest incentive for the talented 26-year-old.

It’s understood Melbourne agreed to grant Davey’s wish of a three-year contract extension, but the deal was never formalised and now appears on shaky ground.

The Herald Sun newspaper has gone as far to suggest that the Dees’ best player will walk out on the club if a suitable trade can’t be reached in next week’s exchange period.

The same newspaper reports that North Melbourne is prepared to part with defender Josh Gibson for Hawthorn's selections 25 and 41 but the Hawks are reluctant to part with the later pick.

Young Hawthorn midfielder Josh Kennedy could also be on the move according to The Age newspaper.

It’s been reported Kennedy, who is the son of four-time premiership player John Kennedy jnr and grandson of triple premiership coach John Kennedy snr, is considering a switch to the Sydney Swans.

Kennedy, 22, has been offered a one-year contract extension by the Hawks but could be lured interstate by the promise of greater opportunities and a longer deal.

Kennedy’s quest for more time in the midfield at Hawthorn isn’t being aided by reports tough onballer Jordan Lewis will remain at the club.

Port Adelaide was keen to secure Lewis as part of a trade for outgoing vice-captain Shaun Burgoyne, but the club has been told the premiership player is off limits according to The Age.

Carlton full-forward Brendan Fevola is also unlikely to feature in trade week according to separate reports in The Age and the Herald Sun.

It’s believed the Blues have been shopping the Coleman Medallist around since his drunken antics at the Brownlow Medal last week, but only the Swans have registered any interest.

In turn, Carlton has expressed interest in Swan Ed Barlow and the tall midfielder could feature in trade week if talks about Fevola progress, says The Australian.

Fevola was expected to meet with Carlton officials this week, but was yesterday seen boarding a plane with wife Alex and the couple’s two children.

The Age also suggests that Bomber Andrew Lovett has flown to Brisbane for talks with the Lions, who may consider trading midfielder Bradd Dalziell for West Coast's Brent Staker.

Adelaide ruckman Jon Griffin is also attracting plenty of interest from rival clubs, but is now likely to stay in South Australia according to the Advertiser.
