Saints and Freo confirm Peake trade

MIDFIELDER Brett Peake is now a Saint after Fremantle agreed to trade the 26-year-old late on Wednesday.

St Kilda will part with its third-round NAB AFL Draft selection (No.48 overall) to secure the deal.

St Kilda coach Ross Lyon, who paraded speedster Andrew Lovett to the press earlier on Wednesday, welcomed Peake's decision to head east.

"We are delighted to have secured the services of Brett Peake from the Dockers," Lyon said.

"He comes from a great football pedigree and has proven himself as a ball-winner and versatile player since debuting in 2005.

"He is a quick player who loves to run and carry the ball and we think he will be a valued addition to the St Kilda midfield."

Peake, who represented Australia in the International Rules series in 2006 after finishing third in his club’s best and fairest in the same year, played 18 games in 2009 for a career total of 75.

The son of Western Australian football great Brian Peake, he landed at Fremantle after being taken with selection No.43 in the 2003 NAB AFL Draft under the father-son rule.

St Kilda’s trade week is not expected to end there, with midfielder Luke Ball last week telling the Saints he wished to be traded despite the club offering him a three-year contract.
