CARLTON onballer Adam Bentick and key position prospect Adam Hartlett are among a group of four senior players delisted by the club on Thursday.

Bentick, 24, was the most experienced player to be axed having played 68 games for the Blues while Jordan Bannister and Jake Edwards were also cut.

Rookies Darren Pfeiffer, Luke Stanton and Lachie Hill will also not be offered contracts for 2010.

"We thank the players for the contributions they have made to the Carlton Football Club, both on and off the field, and we wish them well for the future," football operations manager Steven Icke said.

None of the quartet saw much senior action in 2009, but Hartlett was probably the toughest call made by the club's list management committee.

The 196 cm South Australian was tabbed a key forward of the future when he arrived at the club via the No.25 pick in the 2004 NAB AFL Draft. However, a series of hamstring injuries hampered his development and limited him to just eight games in his first four seasons.

The 23-year-old re-invented himself as a key defender this year with VFL affiliate the Northern Bullants and managed a further three AFL games from round 15. He was dropped after a six-possession performance in the round 17 loss to Collingwood.

Bannister, 26, came to the club from Essendon prior to the 2004 season and played 53 games for the Blues, just two of those this season, to take his career tally to 67.

Bentick did not play a senior game this year after struggling with injury and falling out of favour with coach Brett Ratten.

Edwards, 21, also came to the club as a forward, but ended up as a backman, earning positive reviews for his work in the back half during the Bullants' run to the VFL grand final this season.

But it wasn't enough to earn him a fifth year on Carlton's senior list leaving his career AFL games tally at five – all of those coming in 2008.

Pfeiffer, a former first-round draft pick by the Adelaide Crows, played seven games for the Blues after being recruited via the 2008 NAB AFL Pre-season Draft. He was rookie listed for 2009, but struggled with a serious shoulder injury and didn't play a game.

Neither Stanton nor Hill, both 20, was able to break through for an AFL debut.

Further changes to the club's list are expected prior to the October 31 AFL deadline for the first list lodgment.
