Meet the draftees: Marcus Marigliani
Height: 182cm Weight: 86kg DOB: 05/12/85 Recruited from: Frankston Bio: Inside midfielder whose positioning and work rate at stoppages is brilliant. Can play inside 50 as a small lead-up forward. Ultra-consistent performer for Frankston in 2009 earning a place in the VFL team of the year for the second year running. His 2.99sec 20m and 15.3 beep test confirmed his athletic ability.
In his own words What type of player are you? I think I am an inside midfielder who is good in close and in a contested situation. I have also put a lot more time over the last two years into my work as a small forward who can play deep inside 50 or further up the ground as a half forward. As a junior I also played a lot of football off half-back.
Which AFL player do you feel you resemble, and why? The two midfielders I have tried to watch closely would be Lenny Hayes and Sam Mitchell. Mitchell for his in close stoppage work and Hayes for his work ethic, pressure and positioning around the ground. As a forward, I enjoy watching Brad Johnson - for his size and shape he is a very good leading player who marks extremely well for his size.
What are your strengths as a footballer? My positioning and workrate at stoppages. I feel I also read the play well and pride myself on receiving the ball at pace. I also have a strong focus on my workrate out of a stoppage and my positioning around the ground once the ball has left my area. As a forward my bodywork and marking for my size either as a hit-up option or in a contested situation.
What parts of your game would you like to improve? Even though I have improved as a forward I still feel as thought I can further develop and improve in that area of the ground. Also even though I have not spent a lot of time off half-back this year, I have enjoyed it when I have and feel as thought this is one area where I could explore more going forward possibly.
Which AFL team do you support and how did you come to barrack for them? I support Sydney Swans because my father Dom was a mad South Melbourne supporter and growing up my brother and I would go to the games with him most weeks.
Who has been the biggest influence on your career so far, and why? I would have to say my Dad. Whatever it has been in my life I have done, regardless of whether it was football or work orientated, he has always supported me and been prepared to help me out as best as he could.
