FORMER Carlton player Ian Prendergast has been appointed to the position of general manager - player relations for the AFLPA.
He will take up the role in December.
Since retiring as a player in 2006, Prendergast has worked as a lawyer in South Australia where he initiated the South Australian National Football League Players’ Association.
He was also a member of the AFLPA’s Agent Accreditation Board.
Prendergast has since furthered in legal career in Melbourne and AFLPA CEO Matthew Finnis said the former Blue's experience in both the football and business communities made him an ideal candidate for the position.
“Ian’s background, qualifications, experience and commitment to AFL players means he is a perfect fit for our members and our organisation," Finnis said.
"As a former player and AFLPA club delegate, Ian understands precisely what’s important to players.
“He brings very relevant experience and qualifications to the role and we look forward to all AFL
players benefiting from his advocacy and representation in years to come.”
Prendergast played 65 games for Carlton after being drafted in the 1998 national draft.
