Brad Scott says Melbourne should be playing good football with the talent at its disposal

NORTH Melbourne coach Brad Scott says Saturday's clash with Melbourne at Etihad Stadium should be the start of a great rivalry between the two clubs, but suggests his has had to work harder to build its current list.
In acknowledging the Demons' promising opening to the season, which has included three straight victories, Scott said they should be in the position they are now because of their prominence in recent NAB AFL Drafts.
The top two picks in last year's pool, Tom Scully and Jack Trengove, have played every game for Melbourne this year, while Jack Watts (2008 draft, No.1 overall) and Sam Blease (2008, priority selection) are waiting in the wings. Cale Morton (2007, No.4 overall) is almost over a knee injury.
North's first-round selections in the last four years were Lachlan Hansen (2006, No.3), Robbie Tarrant (2007, No.15), Jack Ziebell (2008, No.9) and Ben Cunnington (2009, No.5).
"The players that they (Melbourne) have got on their list are very good players. Watching them coming through the junior ranks, they were outstanding young footballers. They've been able to come in and have an impact straight away," Scott said.
"We've worked really hard to build a talented young list. We've done that through the draft with the selections we've been given.
"We haven't had the fortunate situation of being handed priority selections either. We've had to do a lot of hard work there and we're really comfortable with the list we've got.
"The footy they (Melbourne) are playing is just reflective of their talent."
Entering 2010, Melbourne's squad had an average age of 22 years and 187 days compared to North's 22 years and 195 days.
Respective AFL experience was 44 matches to 43.
However, Scott said that North's inconsistent start to the season - two wins from five games - did not necessarily mean his side had greater scope for improvement.
He agreed that comparisons with Geelong and St Kilda, which played off in a pre-season grand final in 2004 before eventually meeting in 2009's premiership decider, were fair.
"Those teams at that period of time ... their really, really good players now were very young, or the same age as Jack Watts, Jack Trengove and Tom Scully," he said.
"[We have] Jack Ziebell, Ben Cunnington and Ryan Bastinac, so they're around the same age and we expect them all to come through together. I think it's going to be something pretty special in the future."
Scott added that North's dominance of Melbourne in their last six encounters now meant "absolutely nothing".
But he did see an advantage in taking the Demons away from the MCG, where they have played every game since round one.
"They've got a very comfortable home at the MCG and have played a lot of games there," Scott said.
"But the basics of footy stay the same. The ground dimensions don't make too much of a difference but the fact it's a home game for us is important."
North will make at least one change to the side that beat Hawthorn, with defender Gavin Urquhart having minor knee surgery on Wednesday night.
Scott said second-year wingman Sam Wright would be among those considered to replace him.
